High Park is Derby’s largest park and one of the community’s most popular places to gather, play and enjoy the outdoors. Located on the east side of Derby, the park features more than 105 acres of open space, walking paths, playgrounds, athletic fields, a fishing lake and other amenities for visitors of all ages.
For events and gatherings, High Park offers three rentable spaces: Zimmerman Shelter, the Amphitheater and the Open Shelter. Each space provides a different setting, from enclosed and covered gathering areas to an open-air stage and lawn. Whether you are planning a family celebration, picnic, performance or community event, High Park offers flexible options surrounded by some of Derby’s best park amenities.

Newly Remodeled Zimmerman Shelter
The newly remodeled Zimmerman Shelter offers a comfortable and flexible gathering space for family celebrations, community events and casual get-togethers.
Gathering Space
The shelter accommodates up to 91 guests and features a 25’ x 55’ gathering area with picnic table seating, electricity and nearby paved parking.
Amenities
Renters have access to family restrooms, two refrigerators with freezers, trash cans, and a nearby dumpster. The shelter also includes radiant heat, a fireplace stocked with firewood, and four garage doors that can be opened to create a more open-air feel.
Outdoor Features
A pergola is located on the east side of the shelter to provide additional outdoor space.
Nearby Park and Splash Pad
Adjacent to the shelter is a brand new park and splash pad, which may be enjoyed by shelter renters and remains open to the public as well.
Please Note
The shelter does not have air conditioning, and users must provide their own ignition source for the fireplace.

The Open Shelter offers a spacious, open-air setting for family gatherings, picnics, birthday parties and casual community events.
Location
The shelter is located on the far north side of High Park, near the James Street entrance.
Gathering Space
The pavilion includes a 40’ x 55’ concrete pad with a 30’ x 45’ canopy, providing covered space for guests.
Amenities
The shelter includes electricity, a grill and nine 8’ picnic tables within the covered area.

Restrooms and a public playground are located nearby for convenient access during rentals.

The Amphitheater offers an open-air setting for performances, ceremonies, community programs and other outdoor gatherings.
Stage Area
The space features a 20’ x 27’ concrete stage area with electricity available, making it suitable for small concerts, presentations, speaking events, and performances.
Seating Area
An open grassy meadow provides flexible seating for guests. Attendees may bring lawn chairs or blankets to enjoy the event from the surrounding lawn.
Amenities
The Amphitheater includes access to men’s and women’s restrooms, along with a dressing and prep room for performers, speakers or event organizers.
Sound
Sound amplification is minimal, so renters should plan accordingly based on the size and type of event.
